Paediatric Physiotherapy at Riverwood Physiotherapy

Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of physical conditions of infants, toddlers, pre-teens + teenagers.

Paediatric Physiotherapy

Paediatric Physiotherapy is a branch of physiotherapy that focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of physical conditions in infants, toddlers, preteens, and teenagers.

Age-specific treatment:

  • Developmental motor milestones/developmental delay.

  • Infant feeding treatment.

  • Torticollis and head-shape treatment.

  • Rehabilitation of specific paediatric conditions:

    • Neuromuscular conditions such as Cerebral Palsy and Spina Bifida.
    • Orthopaedic conditions such as sports injuries, scoliosis, post-op rehabilitation and growth related injuries (heel pain, knee pain, hip pain).

Play-Based Therapy:

Paediatric and adult physiotherapy look very different. Most of your child’s therapy sessions will involve doing what they do best: playing! This helps them continue to do their exercises at home and enjoy the experience!

What to expect at a paediatric physiotherapy appointment?

Mainly, FUN & PLAY! We will begin with a quick run-down of your kiddo’s situation, medical history, and any other relevant info. Then, we will get to moving! Your kiddo likely won’t want to sit still for long anyway. We will spend our time playing games since play-based therapy is proven to be the most effective treatment for kids.

There is no need to bring anything, just you and your child. Bonus points for a water bottle and grippy socks to reduce slipping. If you want more information or to book an appointment, please contact our clinic’s paediatric physiotherapist, Darrien Cantelo, directly at [email protected].
