Frequently Asked Questions
The assessment and treatment to help people restore, maintain and maximize their strength, function, movement and over-all well-being. Physiotherapists understand how the body works and specialize in hands-on techniques and exercise prescription to prevent injuries, rehabilitate existing injuries and promote health and fitness.
Please arrive 10 minutes early to confirm your contact information and sign a consent form. Your physiotherapist will take a thorough history before performing a physical assessment and explain our findings and options before answering any questions. Treatment begins on your first appointment.
Please be sure to wear clothing appropriate for assessing and treating the injured area. If you have a lower back, hip or knee injury please wear or bring shorts with you. If you have a upper back or shoulder injury please wear a loose fitting t shirt or tank top. You may be asked to remove your shirt for your physiotherapist to more accurately assess and treat your upper body injury, we will provide you with a hospital gown in this case.
Absolutely not! Physiotherapy is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. We will work with you no matter where you are at to find appropriate treatment options and exercises.
Physiotherapists are primary care providers and do not require a doctor’s referral, however some extended health insurance plans may require one to reimburse the costs of the appointment. Check with your insurance provider to confirm before your first appointment if you are unsure.
If you need to cancel your appointment we ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice or you will be charged for the full amount of your appointment. You may cancel your appointment online or by calling 604-373-7773. If you are sick or have a last-minute emergency please call the office to reschedule at no charge.
In most cases, your physiotherapist does not need the results of your diagnostic test unless you are concerned that you have a bone fracture. The test results are not required for determining the appropriate initial treatment plan as physiotherapy treatment is based on improving your primary complaints (pain, loss of range of motion, etc). Diagnostic tests are mainly required for making surgical decisions but can help confirm the problem. We are also happy to go over what the results mean with you, so please bring reports with you if you have them.
This is a difficult question to answer as no one’s injury presents exactly the same and healing can take place at different rates. Treatment response is affected by the nature of the injury (acute vs chronic), the ability to modify aggravating activities and the complexity of the injury. The rate of recovery is also affected by a client’s age, motivation, occupation, activities, etc. Frequent re-assessment is necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment interventions and to progress the plan appropriately. Treatment should only continue as long as they are still helping. The physiotherapist should be able to provide a “ballpark” time frame and the number of treatments required after the initial assessment.
Yes, we accept WorkSafeBC claims and ICBC claims. You will need to have a claim number and date of injury/accident.
All of the physiotherapists are registered with the College of Physical Therapists of BC and have obtained a Masters degree in Physical Therapy. In addition, they have completed many post-graduate courses in a variety of areas such as manual therapy, acupuncture, Gunn IMS, etc.
Initial assessments and subsequent visits are booked for 30 minutes one-on-one but allow for up to 45 minutes from start to finish.
